Psychology studies how our brains and environments influence human behavior—and it uses that knowledge to help you develop a deep understanding of yourself and those around you.
Our program explores the myriad ways psychology shapes, enriches, and impacts almost every aspect of our lives. You’ll see how it leads to careers ranging from mental health services to governmental agencies and research, to consulting for clients in education, human resources, and even cyber intelligence. As a discipline that constantly evolves and stays relevant to every generation, psychology remains the fifth most popular major in the US.
Working closely with faculty and peers in a lively class and lab environment, you’ll dive into important topics ranging from the impact of visual media (think social media) to the role of nature in human wellness and the psychology of adulthood and aging.
As a student in the psychology program, you’ll be challenged to think critically, conduct important research, and communicate generously, which are important skills in any professional or academic setting. Our graduates have carved careers in human resources as advocates for positive workplace culture, in national firms as employee relations specialists, and in research, educational programs, and government organizations.
In “Psychology of Prejudice, Hate, and Violence,” Professor Alex Wong and his students analyze the nature of prejudice as a basic human psychological need to generalize others in comparison to oneself—a trait that all humans possess.
Arely Saldana’s interests lie in legal psychology and political psychology, and she hopes to pursue her doctorate to further study the implications of circulating pre-trial information about a suspect or victim in the media.
Professor Shawn Bates has a longstanding passion for neuroscience, mentoring, and diversity in STEM.
Make connections and gain valuable experience outside the classroom by joining the Psi Chi & Psychology Club, our student-run group offering networking opportunities, workshops, guest speakers, and mentorship to all students interested in psychology.
In our biological psychology lab, you’ll get first-hand experience with one of the most important topics in psychology: the brain. Learn about all of its parts and how brain damage impacts psychological functions.
On the cusp of receiving her master’s in psychology, Pa Yang (Psychology, ’21) reflects on the value of her work and the ideas behind it: making her community stronger, more connected, and (hopefully) happier.
After battling depression, an eating disorder, and drug dependency, Leo Simpson finds hope at the end of their college journey.
After a life-altering choice landed him in legal trouble, Sal Hernandez Rodriguez is firmly on the road to earning a college degree.
