Help students transcend language to learn and grow with a program designed for multilingual educators to bring their talents to high school or middle school. With pathways to authorizations in Spanish, Hmong, and Punjabi, you'll be empowered as a bilingual advocate with expertise in sociocultural competence.

Through a blend of coursework and over 600 hours of relevant hands-on experience in rural, multilingual 6–12th grade classroom settings, you'll gain the skills and insight to become a transformative teacher who sees and advocates for the cultural and linguistic advantages of marginalized students and their families.

Students learn how to create inclusive classroom cultures of empathy and responsibility during the School of Education’s “Building Bridges: Anti-Racism and Restorative Practices for a Just and Joyful Future"

Pathway to Advocacy

Rooted in the exploration of identity, diversity, and social justice across history and present day, your course will examine topics like gentrification and language policy while emphasizing bilingualism and promoting biliteracy development. You’ll also cultivate classroom strategies to evaluate and enhance programs for multilingual learners.

Empower the Next Generation

Bilingual teachers are in high demand across California's diverse schools. With a Single Subject Bilingual Authorization Credential, you'll bridge language gaps and create inclusive classrooms where multilingual students thrive. This credential prepares you to teach in Spanish, Hmong, or Punjabi, equipping you to support English learners while celebrating their linguistic and cultural heritage.

As a bilingual educator, you'll foster academic success, build community connections, and advocate for students from diverse backgrounds. Whether teaching math, science, or another subject, you'll empower students to learn with confidence in both their home language and English.

You'll also have access to valuable professional development, including attending the annual California Association for Bilingual Education (CABE) Conference. There, you'll engage with experts, learn about the latest research, and build professional connections—ensuring you graduate ready to lead in multilingual classrooms.

Admission into programs leading to a credential does not guarantee that students will obtain a credential. Credentialing requirements are set by agencies that are not controlled by or affiliated with the CSU, and requirements can change at any time. For example, credentialing requirements can include evidence of the right to work in the United States (e.g., Social Security number or taxpayer identification number) or successfully passing a criminal background check. Students are responsible for determining whether they can meet credentialing requirements.
