Nutrition and Food Sciences

The mission of the Department of Nutrition and Food Science is to provide students with a broad educational background in the science of food and nutrition and foodservice management. Non-major students will gain an understanding of the role food plays in disease prevention and the promotion of health.

The BS degree will prepare students to apply their knowledge and skills for careers that require a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential, other nutrition-related careers, and careers in nutrition management. Courses in the option in General Dietetics meet the requirements of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics' Commission for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) for an accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD).
