Chico Adelante Program

Outreach Coordinator

The main reason I applied to graduate school was because of the graduate program’s amazing faculty. The faculty I have worked with in undergraduate school were also faculty of the graduate program, thus I felt more encouraged to apply to the graduate program. I was also in the Psychology Honors Program in undergraduate school and gained the opportunity to work more closely with those specific, amazing professors who I consider to be my mentors. So, it seemed like it was a good opportunity to further explore and engage in what I had started doing in undergraduate school, which was research and teaching related.

I wanted to work for Adelante because I share with Adelante the passion for furthering student success and helping students to reach and or work toward their academic goals and potential. I myself, am a first-generation college student, and I am aware that many students may come from that background too. I believe that peer help is relevant because while I am a student myself, I can hopefully better connect with students to connect to resources. Furthermore, I have worked in the Chico State Writing Center for over 2 years now, since I was an undergraduate student. From this experience, I really see the positive impact peer-tutoring and peer-helping have on students. Overall, I wanted to further extend help to students through Adelante.
