Kallie DeAtley, Animal Science

Kallie DeAtleyKallie DeAtley was chosen as the star student for the animal science program because of her academic accomplishments, involvement in extra-curricular activities, and her work on the University Farm.  As a transfer student from Lassen Community College, DeAtley chose California State University, Chico because of the caliber of its animal science program and the opportunities for hands-on experience at the University Farm.

DeAtley graduated in December 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in agriculture with an option in animal science.  She is currently working at Cottonwood Veterinary Clinic as a veterinary technician and is an alternate candidate for the School of Veterinary Medicine at UC Davis.

While at Chico State, DeAtley was involved in many extra-curricular activities.  She was a member of both the Young Cattlemen’s Association and the Pre-vet Club.  She also worked on the Chico State Dairy Unit and was the herdsman for the Chico State Beef Unit.  DeAtley has also been highly honored for her academic accomplishments.  She was a member of the Golden Key Honor Society and the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, as well as being named to the College of Agriculture Dean’s List each semester enrolled at Chico State.

When asked where she sees herself in 10 years, DeAtley stated “I want to be a large animal veterinarian.  I see myself as a practicing veterinarian that owns my own practice.”  Her enrollment at Chico State was a successful one, which she credits to Dr. Cindy Daley and Dr. Dave Daley.  “They have not only helped me succeed academically, but have also provided me networking opportunities to help me succeed in a career of veterinary medicine.”
