College of Agriculture Kicks off Fall Semester with Ice Cream Social

Announced on: Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018

On Sept. 12, over 300 students, faculty and staff gathered at the University Farm for the College of Agriculture’s annual Ice Cream Social to ring in the new school year. The event allows new students to learn more about the college and the opportunities it has to offer, mingle with faculty advisors, and explore student organizations while enjoying an ice cream sundae bar.

Although the ice cream was free, toppings came at the cost of students getting out of their comfort zone. As each club offers a new experience, clubs used various toppings as incentives for students to ask questions and learn more about their organizations. Clubs present at the social included Alpha Gamma Rho, Alpha Zeta, Crop Science and Horticulture Club, Pre-Veterinary Club, Sigma Alpha, Society of Agriculture Managers, Stock Dog Association, Rangeland Management Club and Young Cattlemen’s Association.

“My favorite part was definitely getting to talk to all of the clubs,” freshman Tyler Jenkins said. “As an agriculture education major, they were all so helpful.”

This semester, Jenkins plans to get involved in the Pre-Veterinary Club and the Society of Agriculture Managers.

Agriculture business major Taylor Gallaty said that what she was excited to meet new people and build connections within the college during her first semester at Chico State.

The Student Success Office coordinated the event, with the College of Agriculture’s student senator, senior Ellen Van Noy, leading the program.
