Student standing next to welcome sign.On September 9, more than 200 students, staff and faculty in the College of Agriculture came together to ring in the new school year at the University Farm with the annual ice cream social. At this event, new students are invited to learn more about the college, mingle with friends and faculty, explore upcoming events and opportunities clubs have to offer, and enjoy some ice cream.

The clubs at the social included Alpha Gamma Rho, Alpha Zeta, Collegiate FFA, Sigma Alpha, Chico Sheep Association and Agriculture Ambassadors. The Student Success Office with its peer advisors were also there answering any questions students had. These clubs range in motive from providing academic assistance to providing ways to gain industry experience in agriculture.

College of Agriculture Senator Tyler Jenkins, one of the event planners, shared his experience at the social.

"I was so pleased to see this event happen again. It has been a staple event in the College of Agriculture for years and to see folks mingling, laughing, and enjoying one another's company was such a treat. The turnout was amazing as well. Every club that tabled got a lot of traction, and extracurricular involvement in the College is on the come up,” Jenkins said. “Encouraging students to make connections and get involved is always important, and with faculty support, it's clear that student involvement and retention are clearly valued this year."
