Kaeli McCarther

Star Student in Agriculture Education

Agriculture Education Star Student Kaeli McCarther is involved in so much, it might just make your head spin. Not only is she active in various clubs around campus, but she also makes time to volunteer in the community.

In high school, McCarther excelled in her music classes, while she was also involved in several other clubs on her high school campus. She was an Associated Student Body officer, FFA officer, and Gay-Straight Alliance president.

She started her higher education at Sierra College, where McCarther graduated with honors and two associate degrees. Now that McCarther is at CSU, Chico, her need to be involved is stronger than ever. She started as an agriculture ambassador and was awarded agriculture ambassador of the year. She continued as the University Farm's Organic Vegetable Project field manager, has been involved in Collegiate Future Farmers of America (CFFA), and is president of the United Students in Agriculture (USA), which was named the College of Agriculture's Outstanding Club of the Year in 2016.

One of the interesting things about McCarther is her passion for an industry she had no background in. She has been told her whole life that she had the knack for teaching, but she never would have thought that her countless experiences in FFA, along with some amazing mentors, would lead her to pursue a career in agriculture education.

"She's a tremendous leader, with intelligence and common sense," says Professor Brad Dodson. "McCarther has unparalleled work ethic; she see what needs to get done and does it."

When she has a moment of free time, McCarther enjoys sewing and crafting, painting oil pastel art on canvas, and playing classical flute.

After college, McCarther plans to finish her teaching credential and begin to work on her master's degree. She ultimately wants to teach at a junior college or a low-income high school so that one day she can be the inspiration to others that her mentors have been to her.
