OCTOBER 2016 | ENSURING A LIFELONG CONNECTION AND ENDURING LEGACY

The Chico Experience Week Concludes with 90+ Events
The 7th annual The Chico Experience Week came to a close last week, leaving many with fond memories from campus and community events. Among these events were the Young Alumni Social, Chico Chapter Fall Mixer, Queer Week, Greek Week, and the 1966 Golden Grad Reunion. We couldn't have asked for a better way to show what the Chico Experience truly is! Read more about the events and see photos.

Chico Alumni Chapter Welcomes Fall at TJ Farms Estates
On October 13, more than 100 alumni gathered at TJ Farms Estates to socialize, reminisce, and explore the pumpkin patch. CSU, Chico President Gayle E. Hutchinson shared her vision of the University's future and how alumni can join this vision. We'd like to give a huge thanks to Hamre Equipment, who was was the title sponsor for this event. See more photos from the Fall Mixer.

Wildcats Help the Oakland Zoo
The Bay Area Alumni Chapter hosted its second Oakland Zoo clean up day on October 15. Alums met early Saturday morning and spent a good portion of their day cleaning and restoring habitats for the animals. After their hard work, the alums enjoyed a picnic lunch together and shared their highlights from the day.
See photos and register for their November 19 volunteer event at the San Francisco Food Bank.

Alumni Spotlight: Gwen Curatilo
Her sparkling soprano singing voice, which once thrilled audiences across the country, isn't heard live on a stage today. But the petite Gwen Curatilo remains an oversized presence in Chico's opera scene, a leading role she's played for nearly five decades. Legions of CSU, Chico alums and people throughout Northern California's broader music scene know Curatilo, the former head of the University's opera program. Read more about Curatilo.

Chico State Named Fifth Most Outdoorsy School in the Nation
Nate Millard urges his students to get outside and explore their world—if for no other than the health benefits. "I want students to be healthy, get outside, and share that with other students," says Millard, mentor supervisor for the First Year Experience Program at Chico State. "A lot of students don't have the healthiest ways for dealing with stress. So going outside, running, hiking, and paddling, among other things, are healthy ways to deal with it."
