Topics: Topics include whether or not to open schools, what it would take to do so safely and equitably for students, staff, and families, and what quality instruction looks like in our new COVID-19 reality. Our panel of educators and administrators will address challenges of transitioning to online instruction necessitated by COVID-19

summersDr. Deborah Summers, '82. Dr. Deborah Summers is associate dean of the College of Communication and Education at California State University, Chico and the former director of the School of Education.  She graduated from Chico State with bachelor degrees in English and liberal studies in 1982. As associate dean, her teaching and research focuses on secondary literacy. Prior to her appointment as associate dean at California State University, Chico, she taught high school English in the region for 15 years. 

malcolmMalcolm McLemore, '09 In his current role as interim associate director of the Student Transition and Retention Center (STAR), Malcolm provides oversight and responsibility for the center’s programmatic development, management, and student success initiatives. Malcolm started at Chico State as a student-athlete and was a member of the track team. He graduated with a degree in recreation administration in 2009 and completed his master's degree in educational leadership at the University of Rochester.

kristenKristin Schrock, '94 Schrock is currently principal at Little Chico Creek Elementary school in Chico. She graduated from Chico State in 1994 with a bachelor's degree in business, and completed her master's degree in education in 2013. Shrock has worked as a teacher in the Chico Unified School District (CUSD) from 1997 to 2014 and transitioned to a CUSD principal in 2014. She is currently an advisory board member for Chico State School of Education and the Alumni Association.

schriberJim Scribner, '87 Scribner is currently the principal and superintendent at Capay Joint Union Elementary School. He began his career in education 32 years ago teaching a combination class of 3rd and 4th grade second language learners. After nine years in the elementary classroom, he went on to successful leadership and teaching positions in elementary, junior high and alternative education K-12 positions.

kochDr. Aaron Koch,‘10 Dr. Koch is an assistant professor in the school of education at California State University, Chico. He graduated from Chico State in 2010 with a master’s and teaching credential in moderate-severe disabilities. His teaching and research interests include teacher preparation and rural special education program development, virtual reality training, and mindfulness for teachers and K-12 students. His previous work experience includes nearly 20 years in local special education programs serving students with extensive support needs.
