Graduate Studies staff and Graduate Student Outreach team is available to visit your classroom or zoom room this semester to offer a short presentation to your students on graduate education opportunities.
Grad Studies staff interviewed Chico State undergraduate students and found that many don't have a clear understanding of the value of graduate degrees or how to identify, prepare, and apply for a degree program. They believe graduate degrees are only for the academic elite, are unaffordable, and are often regarded as a luxury. As a result, only a small percentage of our students pursue a postgraduate degree. The percentage is even smaller for our historically underrepresented students.
This is unfortunate because the US Department of Labor reports a growing demand for postgraduate degrees in most fields and higher employment rates, job security, and significantly higher lifetime earnings afforded those holding the advanced degrees.
If you are teaching an upper division course to juniors or seniors in your discipline or a GE course to a variety of undergrads or would just like to help us "bust" these myths, please enter your desired presentation date and length of presentation on this Google form: https://forms.gle/8zisAsjrAaMuJLKz8.
We are flexible on the length of the presentation and are happy to accommodate content and presentation mode requests. (It will be helpful to schedule the presentation about a week in advance so we can be sure we have a presenter available.)
More information is available at the Office of Graduate Studies (graduatestudies@csuchico.edu) or 530-898-6880.
