The Chancellor's Office has recently updated its guidance and resources to ensure that all students, staff, and faculty have the necessary support and information to help you respond to immigration issues. At this time, this is for information only and not related to any anticipated immigration enforcement on campus. Please see the following guidance and resources:
Also, the California Attorney General issued Guidance and Model Policies to Assist California's Colleges and Universities in Responding to Immigration Issues.
For All Students, Staff, and Faculty: If Approached by Immigration Officers on Campus
- If an immigration enforcement officer approaches you while on campus, please contact or refer them to Joseph Morales, as the designee identified for this matter for our campus, per state law. He is reachable 24/7 at 530-898-3971 and via email at jmorales25@csuchico.edu. The secondary designee is Mike Thorpe with Risk Management, who is available at 530-898-5566 and via email at methorpe@csuchico.edu. It is important to inform the officer that you are not obstructing their process but need to consult with the designated campus official for assistance.
- All campus community members are asked to notify Joseph immediately if an immigration officer is expected to enter, seeks to enter, will enter, or has entered the campus to execute a federal immigration order, and to refer any student or employee with concerns about immigration orders or inquiries directly to him.
- If an immigration enforcement officer approaches you or asks for immediate access to enter housing or other limited access areas of your workspace, you should ask the officer for their name, identification number and agency affiliation, and for a copy of any subpoena or warrant, but clarify you are not obstructing the process and need to consult with the designated official.
International students who have any questions or concerns are encouraged to email or visit International Education and Global Engagement in its office. Its webpage lists all ISSS advisor contact information and advising availability.
Please see your campus email for additional information. Thank you.
