HACU Webinar - From Involvement to Impact: Centering Student Leadership

Announced on: Wednesday, Apr. 09, 2025

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) and Pasadena City College are hosting a webinar "From Involvement to Impact: Centering Student Leadership in Institutional Transformation," on Thursday, April 16, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. PT. The presentation will be led by Dr. Desiree Zuñiga, Associate Professor, Faculty Counselor, and HSI Activity Director and Brianna Mejia Ascencio, Vice President of Student Equity and Associated Student – Equipo Leader at Pasadena City College. The webinar will also feature Pasadena students Jai Watkins and Estrella Gutierrez.

The webinar will focus on how meaningful student leadership and partnership can drive institutional transformation, particularly at Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs). Pasadena City College's (PCC) Student Advisory Equipo is an innovative, compensated council under the Title V HSI grant that positions students as co-leaders in shaping campus policies and initiatives. A key focus of this session will be cross-cultural collaboration, highlighted by the partnership between the Student Advisory Equipo and BLACC (Black Lancer Advisory Collaborative Council), illustrating a powerful model for shared governance and equity-focused change. Additionally, presenters will explore PACTS (Pedagogical Advancement Through Collaboration of Teachers and Students), a dynamic faculty-student initiative that seamlessly integrates student voices into instructional strategies and curriculum development, reshaping teaching practices and student support.
