Faculty, share your research success in Chico Statements

Announced on: Tuesday, Apr. 15, 2025

University Communications is looking for research to feature in the fall issue of Chico Statements, slated for release in September. Faculty who have noteworthy progress or outcomes to share are encouraged to submit their research for consideration.

Please send a description to Clayton Truscott at ctruscott@csuchico.edu by Wednesday, May 7. Submissions should be 35-40 words and understandable to the everyday reader.

Examples of previously featured "Breakthroughs":

—Professor Suzanne Zivnuska's dive into social psychology determined that social media addiction degrades work-family balance and detracts from employee work performance. Additional emotional reactions to posts contribute to burnout at work and create work-family conflict.

—In analyzing direct-to-consumer pharmaceutical ad disclosures, finance and marketing professor Bob Madrigal found that major-risk statements may not meet FDA requirements to be clear and neutral. Consumers' abilities to process risk information are hampered by an abundance of motion and positive and visually complex imagery.

—Lantis Endowed Faculty Chairs Jinsong Zhang and Kun Zhang have created a process to repurpose used cooking oils to replace petroleum-based asphalt binders. They'll now combine the biobinders with recyclable asphaltic waste—including pavement materials and house roof shingles—to explore even more sustainable road maintenance.
