University Film Series presents Kwaidan - April 29th, 5 PM, AYRS 106

(Japan, 1964) 182 minutes. Directed by Masaki Kobayashi.

One of the most important Japanese films ever made, Kwaidan is an anthology horror film loosely based on four Japanese folk stories collected and published by Lafcadio Hearn in 1904. The four unrelated stories in Kwaidan feature some of the most stunning imagery ever made in horror films, resulting in the Special Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 1965 as well as Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Language Film.

We will be holding a special fifteen-minute intermission midway through the movie, like classic film screenings of old, replete with free Japanese snacks!

This film would be of particular interest to those working in and studying Japanese cinema and culture; arthouse cinema; Asian history; folklore; religious studies; and anthropology.

Be sociable and share with your colleagues, students, staff, campus clubs and organizations, and members of the community who might be interested!

Free and Open to the Public!

The University Film Series is sponsored by the CSU, Chico Humanities Center.
