Fight versus flight took on new dimensions at Chico State's University Farm this month when a drone the size of a small helicopter did battle with navel orangeworm, public enemy No. 1 for the state's almond growers.
Sweeping over tidy rows of almond trees, the Yamaha Fazer R drone released a fine mist of Suterra's CheckMate NOW-F, a pheromone disruptor designed to throw off the mating rituals of the moths that produce destructive orangeworm larvae.

The high-tech demonstration, orchestrated by Chico State's Center for Regenerative Agriculture and Resilient Systems (CRARS), was more than just a flashy display of agtech. It was a glimpse into the future of pest control—one rooted in science, ecology, and practicality.
