Dear Faculty, Staff, and Students,
This is a reminder that Full Board submissions for IRB review are due by Friday, September 5, 2025, for consideration at the next Institutional Review Board (IRB) meeting on Friday, September 19, 2025.
What is the IRB?
The IRB is a federally mandated committee responsible for protecting the rights and welfare of individuals who participate in research at Chico State. It ensures that all human subjects research follows ethical principles, institutional policies, and federal regulations.
What Does the IRB Do?
The IRB reviews research to ensure that it:
Complies with federal and state regulations
Follows Chico State policies
Meets ethical standards (e.g., informed consent, privacy protection)
Safeguards participants' rights and safety
Types of Review
Research posing no more than minimal risk may qualify for:
Exempt review, conducted by the IRB Chair
Expedited review, conducted by the IRB Chair and one other IRB member
Studies with greater than minimal risk require Full Board review, which occurs on the third Friday of each month during the academic semester, including a meeting in December.
Not Sure if You Need IRB Review?
Submissions are initially screened to determine review level. You'll be notified if a Full Board review is required.
