30th Annual Commemorative Nome Cult Walk

Announced on: Monday, Sept. 08, 2025

On September 13th, come and join a public event on Chico States Campus to honor the 30th anniversary of the Nome Cult Walk. The public event is to bring awareness to the Nome Cult Walk, which was a forced relocation of Maidu people in September of 1863. 461 Native people were forced to march 100 miles from Chico, CA to the Round Valley Indian Reservation. Many became ill, malnourished and perished along the trail.

In 1995, a commemorative walk was established to honor the memory of these ancestors. Every September, A group of people walk the same 100-mile trail in a journey of healing and resilience.
