Winter Break Closure 2025

Announced on: Friday, Dec. 12, 2025

The Winter Break campus closure now includes Wednesday, December 24, 2025. The Governor authorized a half-day of informal time off and President Perez granted administrative leave for the remaining half day, allowing the campus to close for the full day (except for employees required to work, such as University Police and other essential personnel).*

  • Employees whose duties prevent them from taking time off on December 24, 2025, may arrange with their appropriate administrator to use informal time off on any workday before June 30, 2026.
  • Employees on alternate or compressed schedules, whose non-workday falls on December 24, 2025, shall work with their appropriate administrator to receive 4 hours of informal time off to use before June 30, 2026.
  • Retired Annuitants are in eligible for informal time off
  • Informal time off must be taken – it is not CTO and is not cash compensable.

Campus Status during Winter Break

  • December 15-19, 2025: Campus Open
  • December 22-26, 2025: Campus Closed
  • Campus Open with limited access on December 24, 2025, for employees required to work (e.g., University Police)
  • December 29-31, 2025: Campus Open
  • January 1, 2026: Campus Closed
  • January 2, 2026: Campus Open

Absence Reporting in CHRS

  • Employees, including faculty, do not report leave for December 24, 2025.
  • All other December absences (sick, vacation, personal holiday) must be entered in CHRS by close of business January 2, 2026.

Tracking Informal Time Off – Appropriate Administrator Responsibility

Because CHRS does not track informal time off, administrators must track usage for:

  • Employees whose duties prevented them from taking December 24, 2025, off work
  • Employees on alternate or compressed schedules whose non-workday was December 24, 2025.

Hourly/Intermittent Employees

Active hourly employees (excluding class codes 1150, 1151, 1868, 1860, 1861, 1880, 7171, 7172, and 7930) who would normally have worked on December 24, 2025, are eligible for informal time off. Payroll will apply eligible hours in CHRS. Employees must report all hours physically worked in December by the deadline.
