Academic Affairs is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Kevin Patton as Interim Dean of the College of Agriculture, effective July 1. This follows three years of service by Dr. Dave Hassenzahl as interim dean and conversations with faculty, staff, and external partners. Dr. Patton brings deep institutional knowledge, steady leadership, and a strong commitment to the college's mission that will support continuity and progress during this transition.
Dr. Patton has been a member of the Chico State faculty since 2008 and currently serves as Associate Dean in the College of Natural Sciences. He has also supported the College of Agriculture as Interim Associate Dean, providing leadership in operations, academic programs, assessment, research, and student success. In 2024, he was appointed Interim Director of the University Farm, where he oversees the 800-acre facility, supports hands-on student learning, and advances partnerships with industry and community organizations. He previously served as Chair and Graduate Coordinator of the Department of Kinesiology and remains active in scholarship on teacher education and leadership, with more than 50 publications, over 100 presentations, and numerous honors.
We extend our sincere gratitude to Dr. Hassenzahl for his dedicated leadership over the past three years. Under his guidance, the college strengthened its academic programs, deepened community partnerships, and enhanced its regional impact. His steady leadership helped position the college for continued success and growth.
Dr. Patton will continue to serve as Interim Director of the University Farm as we launch searches for a permanent farm director, an interim associate dean, and a permanent dean this fall.
