Hopper Visiting Artist lecture by John Hitchcock, BSo gallery reception to follow

Announced on: Monday, Sept. 14, 2026

Join us for a Hopper Visiting Artist lecture by John Hitchcock, on Thursday September 24, 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. in PAC 134. Following the lecture, there will be an opening reception in the B-So Gallery, Ayres Hall 105.

John Hitchcock is a contemporary artist and musician based in Madison, Wisconsin, whose interdisciplinary practice has garnered national and international recognition. An enrolled member of the Kiowa Tribe of Oklahoma with Comanche and Northern European ancestry, Hitchcock's work is deeply informed by Indigenous histories, cultural sovereignty, and experimental visual language.

During his four-day visit to Chico State, Hitchcock will collaborate with students to create an installation in Ayres Hall B-So Gallery featuring ceramic tiles, vinyl, screen printed ribbon, textiles, and sound, to honor, remember, and respect Indigenous cultures. This exhibition will run from September 25th through October 15th inviting viewers to explore the vital connections between the elements of our landscape.

Hitchcock has been the recipient of numerous honors and grants, and his artwork has been exhibited in many prominent institutions and venues, nationally and internationally.

The lecture and exhibition are made possible by generous support from David Hopper and Shari Maxson Hopper.
