Restorative Practices and Class Meetings for Conflict Resolution

Molly Knobbe, 2nd grade teacher at Durham Elementary School

Thursday, Dec 4th at 5:30 p.m. PST

Chico State Student Services Center (SSC) Room #150

In this discussion, we will learn about how to implement class meetings and restorative practices. Restorative practices offer opportunities to facilitate healthy discussion and communication skills between students, supporting them to become more independent in using their conflict resolution skills. These practices are a great tool for anyone who interacts with children or faces conflicts in work or community settings. Restorative practices can transform classroom communities, ensuring students have the time and tools to express themselves.

Discussion Leader Bio: Molly Knobbe teaches 2nd grade at Durham Elementary School.

This event is happening in person on campus at Chico State. Light refreshments will be provided.

A Zoom option will be available for those who would like to join virtually.

This talk is part of the

2025–26 Critical Issues in Education Discussion Series, hosted by the School of Education and funded by a Student Learning Fee Award.

Apply now to join one of Chico State's most impactful and prestigious experiential learning programs!

The Community Legal Information Clinic (CLIC) is a student-run, attorney-supervised legal clinic at Chico State that provides free legal information and referrals to community members across California and the United States. Our mission is to expand access to justice while giving students hands-on experience with real legal issues.

We offer opportunities in 11 departments spanning both civil and criminal law. As a CLIC intern, you'll conduct legal research, draft correspondence, interact with clients, and gain professional experience in a collaborative environment that empowers you to make a difference. This opportunity is open to all majors and grade levels. By interning with CLIC, students build connections with peers and legal professionals while earning 3 upper-division units, which may fulfill an internship requirement (contact your advisor to confirm).

What makes CLIC truly unique is that no other university in the nation offers undergraduates an experience like this, where students directly assist real clients and engage in the practice of law under attorney supervision. This rare opportunity provides a competitive edge for law school, graduate programs, and professional careers, making CLIC an outstanding addition to any résumé.

Applications are open until February 11, 2026, however, departments fill up quickly, so we encourage you to apply sooner rather than later! If you have any questions, please email us at clic@csuchico.edu or call (530) 898-4354.

Hours: Thursdays-Saturdays from 11am to 4pm

Special Event: Gateway Talks on November 13, featuring Chico State's own Dr. Russell Shapiro

Announced on: Wednesday, November 12, 2025

Thursday November 13, 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. in AYRES 120.

This event is free and open to the public.

Laurie Lipton was born in New York and began drawing at the age of four. She was the first person to graduate from Carnegie-Mellon University in Pennsylvania with a Fine Arts Degree in Drawing. For 36 years she lived and exhibited in various European countries before moving back to the USA. She currently resides in Los Angeles. Her work has been exhibited internationally, and extensively throughout Europe and the USA.

Initially, Lipton was inspired by the religious paintings of the Flemish School. She tried to teach herself how to paint in the style of the 16th century Dutch Masters and failed. When traveling around Europe as a student, she began developing her very own peculiar drawing technique building up tone with thousands of fine cross-hatching lines like an egg tempera painting. "It's an insane way to draw", she says, "but the resulting detail and luminosity is worth the amount of effort. My drawings take longer to create than a painting of equal size and detail."

Join us for the lecture to find out more about her current artwork.

For additional information about the lecture or location (including people who need special accommodations or who have questions about physical access), please contact emacdonald1@csuchico.edu, 530-898-5331, in advance of the event.

This lecture is made possible by the generous support of David Hopper and Shari Maxson Hopper.

Did you know the creek running through our campus flows year-round and connects directly to local waterways? Everything that goes into a storm drain—trash, pet waste, soap, or oil—can end up in the creek, harming fish, plants, and wildlife.

Let's keep our creek clean and healthy:

Pick up litter before it reaches the drain.
Dispose of pet waste properly—it carries harmful bacteria.
Never pour anything but rainwater into a storm drain.
Together, we can protect our campus creek and our community's water!

Have you read a good book lately that you think would make a good book in common? Please let us know on this google form. The selection committee for the Book in Common is meeting to choose the book for 2026-27, and we would appreciate your suggestions.

This year's book in common, California Against the Sea, is available at the Meriam Library, 3rd floor. The book examines how the iconic 1200-mile California coastline has been shaped by human engineering. What can be done to work with the forces of nature, rather than against them, to restore and preserve the coastline in the face of climate change and sea level rise? Author Rosanna Xia will give a public talk at Laxson Auditorium on April 2. Look for details on events at the Book in Common website.

Anthropology on Screen with CAS (The Chico Anthropological Society) November 17th!

On November 17th from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM in Sylvester's Café, join the Anthropological Society for an unforgettable evening as we unearth the timeless adventure of The Mummy (1999)!

With a FREE PIZZA FEAST, all the hot chocolate you can drink, and all the popcorn you can eat, come with us on an adventure into the sands of ancient Egypt - where archaeology and mythology intertwine. While archaeology in the real world doesn't usually involve fighting the undead, it's always fun to look back on the stories that inspired many of us to pursue Anthropology as adults. Whether you're an Anthropology major, an aspiring adventurer, or a student who wants to learn more about what anthropology is, all majors are welcome to attend this FREE event, and ALL OF CHICO STATE is invited! Please bring your friends, colleagues, clubs, and departments for an unforgettable evening with Chico State's oldest and largest Anthropology club.

Finally, while watching movies and studying Anthropology is fun, in these difficult times where benefits are being cut left and right, it's important to keep Chico State students fed and safe - which is why we will be offering a huge selection of completely FREE FOOD to all who attend. After all, helping each other in times of struggle is what makes us human - and that's what Anthropology is all about.

Come for the entertainment, stay for the free food, and immerse yourself in the relaxing atmosphere of Sylvester's Cafe. Popcorn, mystery, and mummies await!

Dare to dig deeper with CAS on our biggest event of the year!

If you have any questions about the event or would like to know more, either email me directly at alengland@csuchico.edu or message us on Instagram @chicoanthropologicalsociety! Thank you, and hope to see you there!

Perennial herbs that live at high elevations often spring up from underground storage organs to quickly produce flowers after snowmelt and then fade within 5-6 weeks. Two of these snowline geophytes, Dicentra uniflora and Dicentra pauciflora (Papaveraceae) have been investigated in the Cascade Range of northeastern Butte County. Hear how these closely related "steer's head" plants have responded to drought, animals, fire and other disturbances to survive in gravels at high elevation, with insights from 16 years of field data and long-term herbarium records.

The most valuable support a family caregiver can receive is from a peer - who has been through what they are going through and can truly understand what it is like to care for a loved one. Family caregiver support groups meet once a month and are facilitated by trained staff. Caregivers learn strategies and skills to solve problems; maintain their own personal, physical and emotional health; and provide the best care they can for those who are dependent upon them. Support Groups provide a supportive atmosphere to share experiences and ideas to ease the stress of caregiving.

Passages Caregiver Resource Center provides support to family caregivers to ease the physical and emotional challenges of caregiving.

The central role of the Faculty in university governance at Chico State was established in 1967 in a Constitution of the Faculty. Over the years, the constitution has fallen out of sight and out of compliance, but on October 30 the Academic Senate agreed to present the Faculty (all Unit 3 employees) with a vote on amendments to the constitution that would bring it into compliance and make it a living document to ensure the full participation of the Faculty in university shared governance.

The 1967 Constitution of the Faculty identified the "duty and responsibility of the Faculty to formulate, recommend, review, and revise all academic, personnel, and professional policies, including fiscal policies of the university, related thereto broadly and liberally defined," which the amended constitution reaffirms and extends to include all employees represented in the Unit 3 Collective Bargaining Agreement.

A FASP working group shepherded the amendments through the Academic Senate process, and members of the working group will host two drop-in Q&A sessions to answer any questions that "the Faculty" may have. As Senate Chair Coons explained, a vote on these amendments will take place between November 18 and November 20, and we invite you to ask questions about the amendments or their rationale. We believe that we are living in a critical period for faculty governance in university affairs, in both the CSU as well as nationally and globally, and we hope that a revived Constitution of the Faculty will strengthen the faculty's role in shared governance at Chico State for years to come.
