Meriam Library
Second Floor
Meriam Library is growing—literally! Near the elevators on the second floor, you'll find our new seed library, stocked with FREE flower, fruit, herb, and vegetable seeds to help you start your own garden. All seeds are heirloom varieties (absolutely no GMO) purchased from small BIPOC farmers. A seed library works just like a regular library: you "borrow" seeds at planting time, grow them out, and are encouraged to save and return seeds at the end of the season so others can grow too.
Seed libraries promote biodiversity, reduce reliance on large seed corporations, and help combat seed monocultures that threaten the world's food supply. The seed library also includes growing tips for available seeds and is located near our sustainability book collection, with resources on seed saving, container gardening, small-space growing, and more. Questions or interested in having a librarian visit your class or club? Contact Michelle Mussuto to set something up!

University Film Series presents: 8 1/2
Directed by Federico Fellini, Italy, 1963
Black and white, 138 minutes.

Thursday, February 10 at 6:00 p.m., PAC 134

Marcello Mastroianni plays Guido Anselmi, a director whose new project is collapsing around him, along with his life. One of the greatest films about film ever made, Federico Fellini's 8½ (Otto e mezzo) turns one man's artistic crisis into a grand epic of the cinema. An early working title for 8½ was The Beautiful Confusion, and Fellini's masterpiece is exactly that: a shimmering dream, a circus, and a magic act.

Introduction by Professor Rob Davidson.

This is a friendly reminder that when stormwater flows, it carries everything with it - straight to Big Chico Creek. As stormwater moves across streets and land, it picks up harmful materials such as oil and grease from pavement, food wrappers and litter, and pet waste that hasn't been bagged and removed. Because of this, stormwater is the largest source of water pollution in urban waterways across the United States.

Let's all do our part to help keep our creek clean!

The International Faculty Partnership Seminars sponsored by the California State University through the Academic Council on International Programs (ACIP) are designed to provide international experiences for faculty of diverse disciplines from all CSU campuses. The mission of the CSU International Programs (CSUIP), a system-wide unit operating from within the CSU Chancellor's Office in Long Beach, is to develop intercultural communication skills and international understanding among CSU students and faculty.

For 2026, the theme is "Two Regions one Future: Exploring the California-Mexico Scientific, Economic, and Cultural Ties", and will be held in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico, from June 21 to June 26, 2026. This faculty seminar brings together scholars from across the CSU and partner institutions in Mexico to explore shared challenges and opportunities through scientific, economic, and cultural lenses. By fostering cross-border collaboration and advancing regionally relevant research, the seminar reflects the CSU's strategic commitment to innovation, equity, student success, and global engagement. Through dialogue and exchange, participants will strengthen academic partnerships that support sustainable development and deepen the impact of CSU research and teaching in the binational context of California and Mexico.

Faculty members from all CSU campuses and all disciplines are encouraged to participate. Applicants must hold a full-time tenured or tenure track appointment at a CSU campus. Faculty members who will be participating in the Faculty Early Retirement Program (FERP) on or before July 1, 2025 are not eligible for selection. Approximately 20 faculty members will be selected to participate. The Committee will seek a broad distribution of disciplines and participation from across campuses.

As seminar hosts, CSUIP will cover the cost of on-site lodging and most meals. CSUIP will contribute $500 to the cost of travel to San Diego. CSUIP will arrange for transportation to and from Ensenada from the San Diego State University campus. Other incidental expenses and additional travel will be the responsibility of the participant. CSU campuses may also provide funding for participants, if additional funds are needed.

If interested, you can apply and find additional information at the Smartsheet for the CSUIP application form. The deadline to submit is March 1, 2026, at 11:59pm PST.

WHERE: Hybrid session: meets in-person in SSC 150 AND Zoom -- email Carmy Miller at cmiller80@csuchico.edu for Zoom link prior to meeting date.

The most valuable support a family caregiver can receive is from a peer - who has been through what they are going through and can truly understand what it is like to care for a loved one. Family caregiver support groups meet once a month and are facilitated by trained staff. Caregivers learn strategies and skills to solve problems; maintain their own personal, physical and emotional health; and provide the best care they can for those who are dependent upon them. Support Groups provide a supportive atmosphere to share experiences and ideas to ease the stress of caregiving.

Passages Caregiver Resource Center provides support to family caregivers to ease the physical and emotional challenges of caregiving.

Dr. Michael Hattem, "The American Revolution in Popular Memory"

Historian, Associate Director of the Yale-New Haven Teacher Institute

Thursday, February 19 at 5:30 p.m., on Zoom

Register for Webinar: https://csuchico.zoom.us/meeting/register/jDvU3yngTDWzIhGYdrd9iw#/registration

In this talk, historian Michael D. Hattem explores how and why the American Revolution has had a unique place in the nation's popular memory of its past. He will discuss the importance of how generations of Americans have told the story of the Revolution, how politics have shaped how the Revolution has been remembered, and how Americans have fought over the meanings and legacy of the Revolution for nearly 250 years. By uncovering the role of the memory of the Revolution as an American "origin myth," he will offer insights into the history of the changing relationship between the American people and their Revolution as we approach 2026 and the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Dr. Michael D. Hattem is a historian on early America, the American Revolution, and historical memory, who earned his Ph.D. in History from Yale University. He is the author of The Memory of '76: The Revolution in American History (2024), which was a finalist for the 2025 George Washington Prize, and Past and Prologue: Politics and Memory in the American Revolution (2020). His work has been featured in The New York Times, TIME magazine, The Smithsonian Magazine, the Washington Post, as well as many other mainstream media publications and outlets. He has also served as a historical consultant or contributor for a number of projects and organizations, curated historical exhibitions, appeared in television documentaries, and authenticated and written catalogue essays for historical document auctions. We are happy to send out this call to fill 28 Visiting Professor spots for Summer 2027. The deadline to apply is April 1, 2026. Selected applicants will be notified by June 15, 2026.

Professors from University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC) Affiliate Universities have the unique opportunity to support the USAC mission and internationalize their perspectives and home universities by teaching abroad as a Visiting Professor (VP). The mission of USAC is to inspire international learning and to develop global citizenship through affordable and culturally authentic academic experiences. USAC's goals are to administer high-quality study abroad programs for undergraduate students while also internationalizing Affiliate Universities and Partner Universities abroad through collaboration and exchanges of students and faculty. Through this unique international teaching opportunity, Visiting Professors benefit by immersing personally and professionally in another culture while enhancing their skills in teaching, foreign language learning, intercultural communication, and creative problem-solving. VPs acquire international knowledge and experience, which adds value to their teaching and research back on their own campuses. USAC courses abroad include undergraduate U.S. students but may also include international students (from the local host university or elsewhere). English levels may vary.

Applicants are required to submit a document expressing approval from both their department chair/dean AND the education abroad office at the institution (whether you or someone else). You will be copied on acknowledgement emails and are encouraged to share any feedback you have with USAC. You will also be consulted before any offers are made to selected applicants.

NOTE: A major consideration will be the degree to which faculty can/will recruit students for the program and demonstration of prior success in recruiting students for similar opportunities.

Additionally, USAC will be offering a webinar that faculty can attend that will go over the program and application. Please find the link here to register. This will also be recorded.

To apply, see a list of course/locations, and read additional information, please visit the USAC Visiting Professor Application.
