Don't be Scared of Internet Research, October 30th 4:00 pm, BSS 101

Location: Behavioral and Social Sciences (BSS), Room 101

In this talk, Dr. Naomi Smith explores the haunted halls of online culture as she reflects on her 15 years of experience researching digital cultures. Dr Smith discusses how we can examine digital cultures as distinct social forms which have the capacity to provide valuable insight into the contemporary social world, not just as an 'add-on' to the 'real world'. Researching digital cultures helps us understand how digital labour, care and intimacy are transformed in and through digital platforms. Digital platforms structure how we live in the world and how we make sense of it.
