Casey Lyons was born and raised in Southern California and is a first-generation college student. She holds an associate's degree in Sign Language/Interpreting, a Bachelor's in Communication Studies, and a Master's in Rehabilitation Counseling with an Emphasis on Deafness.
Casey began her career in disability services as a sign language interpreter and has 13 years of experience working in post-secondary education. In her current role as an Accessibility Advisor and Deaf Services Coordinator, she meets with students to identify institutional barriers to their education related to their disability. She provides ongoing accommodation management, coaching, and collaboration with students, faculty, and the campus community to ensure equitable learning experiences for students with disabilities.
Passionate about communication equity, Casey coordinates interpreting and captioning services for students who are Deaf and hard-of-hearing, as well as for campus events. As a non-traditional student herself, she has a special interest in supporting first-generation, transfer, and working students by helping them access the resources they need beyond accommodations. She is also a member of the 1st Generation Faculty and Staff Association.
Beyond direct student support, Casey serves as the ARC liaison for the College of Communication and Education and liaison to the College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Construction Management, fostering strong partnerships to support students within these disciplines.
Outside of work, Casey likes to spend time with friends, family, and her two bunnies. She loves the outdoors, crafting, reading, and video games.
