Need Help Paying for an Essential Expense?
If you are struggling to afford an important expense and/or have experienced unexpected financial strain, Chico State Basic Needs may be able to help.
Emergency Grants provide one-time financial assistance to help students cover essential expenses when they cannot afford them on their own. Assistance may be available for:
- Car repairs
- Medical expenses
- Childcare expenses
- Utility bills
- Transportation costs

Emergency Grants May Be Available If You:
- Need help paying for an essential expense
- Are experiencing financial hardship and cannot afford a necessary cost on your own
- Have experienced a loss of income or an unexpected financial challenge
- Need short-term financial support to help you remain enrolled at Chico State
Eligibility
To receive Housing Assistance, you must:
- Be currently enrolled at Chico State;
- Be experiencing a financial hardship, an unexpected financial challenge, or need short-term financial support to help you remain enrolled at Chico State; and
- Meet with a Basic Needs Case Manager to discuss your situation and available options
How to Apply
- Complete the Application for Assistance and select: Emergency Grants: One-time financial help for unexpected costs, like car repairs, medical bills, childcare, utilities, and more.
- After you submit your application, book an appointment with a Case Manager.
