Stephen D. Gutierrez Reading

Stephen D. Gutierrez is the author of three collections of short stories and essays, and an American Book Award recipient. He is well published in magazines and anthologies, with two Notable Essay citations in Best American Essays. Most recently, his stories have appeared in The North American Review and Cimarron Review. Captain Chicano Draws a Line in the American Sand is his first novella, just released by University of Tampa Press. Originally from City of Commerce, a small working-class city in southeast Los Angeles County, he has made his home in the Bay Area for the past thirty years. He is a former member of the English Department at Cal State East Bay.
