This panel of Chico State professors will unpack this year's Book in Common, Clint Smith's How the Word is Passed: A Reckoning with the History of Slavery Across America. Focusing on the ways Smith's book dispels entrenched myths regarding the nation's founding, this panel will center on the outsized role of racism and slavery in shaping the fledgling United States and its history - and grapple with the shadow cast by the legacy of slavery in the present day.
