Ceanothus maritimus, or Maritime Ceanothus, is a rather rare shrub that is endemic to San Luis Obispo County, California. As the name suggests, the plants likes to grow in coastal regions. The shrub typically stays under a meter high, but spreads to 2.4m in width. The leaves are under 2cm long, and are a shiny green, with the edges curled under and sometimes toothed. The flowers are a pleasant deep blue to off-white, and are arranged in clusters. A number of different bees and butterflies visit the flowers from winter to spring. The fruit is about 6mm which is red and rounded.
