Bridge IV: How to Apply

How to Apply:

The BSS FUTURE Scholars Program is more than a research opportunity; it's a chance to explore, discover, and innovate! Join us in advancing knowledge and shaping the future of the Behavioral and Social Sciences.

Interested undergraduate students within the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences can apply to the program by submitting an application form.

*The application period for the Spring 2025 session has now ended. Fall 2025 applications will open in spring of 2025.

  • This is a paid research assistantship (9-week program) - no prior experience required!
  • Previous applicants may reapply, up two a total of two semesters.
  • Acceptance into the program is not guaranteed - based on the application submitted, the B5 Team will determine whether or not a student will actually be conducting/contributing to the advancement of research (this isn't a "student assistant" position).

Application Process

*please note that in order to be considered as a team, BOTH faculty and student applications must be submitted before the deadline.

  • Student:

Identify a Chico State CBSS faculty member to serve as your research mentor. Be sure the faculty member completes the required faculty application.

Complete the Student Application (Fall 2025 applications will open in spring of 2025).

  • Faculty:

Complete the Faculty Application (Fall 2025 applications will open in spring of 2025).

Faculty may nominate more than one student (up to four), either working on separate projects or working together, but please note that students will be considered on an individual basis. Selections are NOT based on teams. Therefore, please be aware it is possible that some team members may be selected and others not.

Faculty mentors may supervise up to four student research assistants per session. However, faculty compensation is limited to a maximum of two students, totaling $2,096. All students involved in the project will receive full funding.

Faculty MUST complete a separate application for each student (even if they will work on the same project).

How Applications will be Assessed:

Participants will be selected based on their academic background, research potential, and commitment to the program's goals.
