How to Apply: 

The BSS FUTURE Scholars Program is more than a research opportunity; it's a chance to explore, discover, and innovate! Join us in advancing knowledge and shaping the future of the Behavioral and Social Sciences.

Interested undergraduate students within the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences can apply to the program by submitting an application form.

*Application are now closed for the Fall 2024 cohort. Spring 2025 applications will open in November of 2024.


Application Process

  • Students:

Identify a Chico State faculty member to serve as your research mentor. Be sure the faculty member completes the required faculty application.

  • Faculty:

Complete the Faculty Application

*Spring 2025 applications will open in November of 2024.

Faculty may nominate more than one student, either working on separate projects or working together, but please note that students will be considered on an individual basis. Selections are NOT based on teams. Therefore, please be aware it is possible that some team members may be selected and others not.

Faculty MUST complete a separate application for each student (even if they will work on the same project).


How Applications will be Assessed: 

Participants will be selected based on their academic background, research potential, and commitment to the program's goals.


Student Researcher Requirements 

  • Summer 2024:

In addition to activities directed by the faculty mentor, BSS FUTURE Scholars researchers will participate in regular discussion groups where students can discuss shared experiences, research methodologies, literature reviews, data analysis techniques, and academic writings skills.

  • Academic Year 2024-25:

Students will be encouraged to present research findings at departmental seminars, conferences, and/or undergraduate research symposia.

Faculty Research Mentor Requirements 

Provide students guidance, support, and expertise throughout the research process, including product design, data collection, analysis and presentation.
