After graduating with her B.A. in International Relations, Georgia received a Master’s degree in Political Science from CSU, Chico, where she worked with Professors Wilking and Dwyre on her M.A. thesis. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. at Vanderbilt University. She is interested in how the electoral experience of women, and the consequences of descriptive representation, differ across level and type of elective office. She is particularly interested in understanding the ways in which female executives have a systematically different experience, both as candidates and officeholders.
After graduating from Chico State, Kirsten moved to D.C. and worked as a Staff Associate for the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, and as a Political Specialist for the National Republican Congressional Committee.
Kirsten is currently the Women and Girls Officer at the United Nations Foundation and Advocacy Officer for Girl Up. Through her work, she strives to empower young female leaders to become advocates for change – by giving them the tools and skills they need to advocate in their community and to their members of Congress. She has also helped develop the international advocacy program for Girl Up, so all girls can be change-makers in their countries and communities. In 2017, Kirsten led efforts to pass H.R. 2408, ‘Protecting Girls’ Access to Education in Vulnerable Settings Act’ in the U.S. House of Representatives and is working to ensure it's signed into law. She believes that educating members of Congress and their staff is key to sound policy-making. Kirsten has a proven track record of unifying diverse, bipartisan groups toward the common goal of advancing girls' and women’s rights.
Grace is a re-entry student, planning to graduate with majors in International Relations and German in the spring of 2018. She is passionate about the foreign policy of the United States and its diplomatic relations, especially with Europe and Russia. She has studied abroad in South Korea and Germany, focusing on studying South Korean, German and Russian. She is planning to return to Germany to pursue a Master’s degree, and to ultimate pursue a career with the U.S. State Department.
