It can be challenging to be a 1st gen professional. Existing research has shown that moving up the socioeconomic ladder is becoming more difficult, and class bias has been shown to impact lifetime earnings. Studies on first-generation college students also suggest that disparities may follow them into their post-college careers.

The 1st Gen Faculty and Staff Association is a group of caring staff and faculty who were the first in their families to graduate from college. We provide a space for connection, networking and support as we navigate our careers and support students.
