INTERNATIONAL FIELD SCHOOL: Learning by Doing Good in Kenya This is a Hybrid class – the first four weeks will be on Zoom and/or online asynchronous, and the last two weeks will be in person, including study abroad in Kenya. Students must attend all classes in person during the assigned times and classroom. This is a six weeks course. The material will be covered at Chico State, and another two weeks will be spent at Strathmore University learning and interacting with Kenyan students and local entrepreneurs. PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS: This course emphasizes the adaptation of entrepreneurial concepts and practices for creating and developing successful social enterprises in a developing country and cultural differences. Students will explore what distinguishes social innovations and how to apply business start-up knowledge, skills, and abilities to accomplish them. In collaboration with Strathmore University in Nairobi, Kenya, students will be able to learn in a different environment to appreciate the role of diversity, culture, and global management. These are skills necessary for today's work environment. FACULTY LEADER: Dr. Sarah Kimakwa was born and raised in Kenya, where she earned her Bachelor's degree and worked in different capacities within the country. Dr. Kimakwa has lived and worked in other countries and has a Ph.D. in Business Administration. She has taught courses in entrepreneurship and management, and her work has focused on social entrepreneurship, such as working with communities promoting food security to alleviate poverty.
