The Valene L. Smith Museum of Anthropology is launching another pop-up exhibition in our Lobby Gallery. This pop-up exhibition provides information on the important campus resource, Safe Place, during Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) specifically centered around the Denim Day campaign. Denim Day is the longest running sexual violence education and prevention campaign. Peace Over Violence began this campaign in 1999 and it has been taken up by organizations around the world, including Safe Place here on the Chico State campus. This semester the Valene L. Smith Museum of Anthropology is partnering with Safe Place to create a pop-up exhibition that acknowledges the history of the Denim Day campaign and paints an empowering vision for the future by featuring movements, campaigns, and remembrances that continue to drive change in our society. The show will be a brief pop-up presentation from Tuesday April 25 through Friday May 5, 2023. The public is invited to the Meriam Library Breezeway in front of the museum on April 26, 2023 at 1pm to paint their own denim squares and learn more about Safe Place. The Valene L. Smith Museum of Anthropology is dedicated to promoting respect and appreciation for human cultural diversity. Check the website for ongoing and upcoming events and programming: www.csuchico.edu/anthmuseum. The museum is free and open to the public Tuesday through Saturday 11-3.
