The Student Learning Center is hiring subject tutors and SI Leaders!

We are looking to hire tutors/SI Leaders for the following subjects:

  • BIOL 162, 163, 211, 360
  • CHEM 111

  • EECE 211, 311

  • JAPN 101-202

  • PHYS 202A & 204A, 204B

  • POLS 155

Position: Approximately 6-12 hours per week.

Job Description: Under the direct supervision of the Subject Tutor Coordinator or SI Coordinator, tutors/leaders provide weekly sessions supporting assigned subject area(s). Tutors/leaders promote independent learning and act as academic mentors and role models. Using questions and interactive strategies, tutors/leaders guide students through course material and suggest helpful learning strategies. Successful candidates must be prepared to complete 10-15 hours of training during each semester of employment.

Qualifications: Tutors must maintain good academic standing (2.8 GPA or above) and be able to make independent decisions. Junior or senior standing is preferred. Undergraduates must be enrolled in and complete a minimum of 6 units; graduate students, 4 grad level units. Applicants should be sensitive to the experience of students with disabilities and students from low-income, academically disadvantaged, and ethnically diverse backgrounds. Ongoing participation in training sessions is required for employment. Successful candidates will be required to provide services in person and online. Candidates with the ability to tutor more than one subject are preferred.

Hourly Rate: $16.20 per hour

Selection Procedure: Tutors/leaders will be selected on the basis of an evaluation of information obtained from the application packet, transcripts, and the interview.
