Reminder! Institutional Review Board (IRB) Full Board Review Submissions are due October 1st.

Announced on: Monday, Sept. 25, 2023

What is the IRB?

The IRB is an administrative body established to protect the rights and welfare of human research subjects recruited to participate in research activities conducted under the auspices of the institution with which it is affiliated.

What is the IRBs purpose?

The IRB reviews research studies to ensure that they comply with applicable regulations, meet commonly accepted ethical standards, follow institutional policies, and adequately protect research participants.

Exempt, Expedited, and Full Board Review Categories

Human subjects research that does not meet the definition of "minimal risk" must be reviewed by the full board which meets on the third Friday of each month during the academic year.

Exempt and expedited IRB submissions do not have submission deadlines. Submissions, which present minimal risk, are reviewed on a rolling basis by the IRB chair, Ben Seipel.

Is my project more than minimal risk?

Upon receipt and review of each submission, the review category will be determined. If your submission requires review by the full board, you will be notified.

The next meeting of the IRB for the Fall Semester is Friday, October 20th. Cayuse IRB submissions must be received by Friday, October 1st.

If you have questions about the submission process, please contact Sharon Ruggirello, Research Compliance Coordinator.
