Two Great exhibits at the Valene L. Smith Museum are in their final days! Deeply Rooted: How Soil Connects Us and On Location: Film Tourism Around the World These two student-curated exhibitions are currently on display at the Valene L Smith Museum of Anthropology -- across from the Meriam Library's main entrance. On Location is the result of research and faculty collaboration between Drs. Chiara Ferrari, Mathew Stone, William Nitzky, and Quinn Winchell, which was then transformed into the exhibition by Museum Studies graduate student, Emily Jenkins-Moses. Film and travel are a potent mix that shape perceptions of place, create new experiences, and reinforce old ones. Come explore how film-induced tourism and its relationship to imagined places impacts tourists and their travel destinations. Grab a friend and step into the fandom and magic created by the silver screen. Have you visited a place because you saw it in a movie? Where will you go next? We hope you come see these great shows before they leave campus. These shows are in their final days. Come check them out by Sat Oct 14th. The museum is open Tuesday-Saturday 11:00-3:00
Deeply Rooted offers the North State an immersive, interactive, and educational experience that illustrates how soils connect diverse aspects of the natural world and human experience. The exhibit recognizes the Mechoopda Tribe's enduring presence, which continues and is recognized with stories and art by current tribal members. Visitors will marvel at the subterranean tunnel that welcomes them into the secret world below us. Learn how soil has been a vital resource for food production, art, home construction, medicine, and cultural identity.
