Celebrating 55 years of EOP The Valene Smith Museum of Anthropology will open its newest pop-up exhibition on the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) at Chico State to the public on Wednesday, Oct 11, 2023. The EOP, which is now across all 23 campuses of the CSU, began as a pilot program at Chico State in 1968 and became official in 1969. Visitors will learn about this innovative program and the incredible graduates who make it a national success story. EOP is an educational program that supports and advocates for first-generation and historically low-income students to ensure retention, college success, and graduation for all participants. What defines the college experience? Is it dorms, the library, classes….? Of course, these are all parts of making up the unique experience of attending college. Yet, the most important element is the students themselves. Enrolling students from various academic backgrounds helps to increase academic diversity and brings fresh perspectives to campus from which all students benefit. In this way, the efforts of EOP and success of EOP students lead to a more robust and engaging college campus for all! The grand opening reception will be open to the campus and general public Friday, Oct 13 at 4pm as part of the campus Wildcat Weekend events. Come show your support for this vital and long-standing program designed to uplift and support Chico State students.
