Hiring Tutors For Spring 2024! Refer Your Students!

The Student Learning Center is Hiring!

Do you know an outstanding student who would make a great tutor? Ask them to apply to be a Subject Tutor with the SLC!

Position: Subject Tutors for Spring 2024. Approximately 6-10 hours per week.

Job Description: Under the direct supervision of the Student Learning Center Tutor Coordinator, tutors provide small group weekly tutoring sessions in assigned subject area(s). Tutors promote independent learning and act as academic mentors and role models. Using questions and interactive strategies, tutors guide students through course material and suggest helpful learning strategies. Tutors must be prepared to complete 10-15 hours of training during each semester of employment and provide approximately 6-10 hours of tutoring per week.

Qualifications: Applicants must be enrolled at CSU Chico and maintain good academic standing (2.8 GPA or above). Applicants must have the following knowledge and abilities: demonstrate excellent communication skills; work cooperatively with faculty, staff and other students; work with minimal supervision; be sensitive to the experience of students with disabilities and students from low-income, non-traditional, academically disadvantaged, and ethnically diverse backgrounds. Completion of specific courses with a grade 'B+' or better may be required in order to qualify. Exceptions to the minimum eligibility qualifications may be granted at the sole discretion of the University.

  • PHYS 202A, 202B, 204A, 204B

  • SPAN 101, 102, 201, 202

Hourly Rate: $16.20 per hour

Selection Procedure: Tutors will be selected on the basis of an evaluation of information obtained from the following sources:

1) completed application packet

2) unofficial transcripts

3) completed instructor's recommendation form for each tutoring subject

4) interview

All application materials (application packet, faculty recommendation, and unofficial transcript) must be turned in for your application to be considered.
