Symposium on Religion and Public Health During the COVID Pandemic

Friday, Feb. 23, 2024, 9 a.m.–2 p.m.
Tehama Hall 116
Free

The recent COVID pandemic raised many ethical and practical concerns in connection with religious beliefs, mores, and history. This symposium aims to explore these issues and examine how they affect policy makers, those who were afflicted by this pandemic and the public at large, whether religious or not. Perhaps most importantly, it will examine policies that may help us to better prepare for future pandemics.

The sessions will feature speakers who contributed to the recent publication Religion and Public Health during the Time of COVID-19, edited by Andrew Flescher and Joel Zimbelman, as well as community stakeholders.

Speakers:

  • Kwadwo Boakye, Assistant Professor, Department of Public Health and Health Services Administration, CSU Chico
  • Andrew Flescher, Professor, Family, Population and Preventive Medicine, Core Faculty of the Program in Public Health, and Professor of English, SUNY Stonybrook
  • Sarah Gagnebin, Lecturer, Department of Comparative Religion and Humanities, CSU Chico
  • Don Heinz, Professor Emeritus, Department of Comparative Religion and Humanities, CSU Chico
