Bee Season on Campus

Announced on: Friday, Mar. 15, 2024

Spring has (unofficially) sprung, bringing blooms and bees out to campus!

FMS has seen its first bee swarm of the season, and we want to remind everyone what to do if they encounter one on campus.

First, stay calm. The best thing to do is turn around and walk away.

Second, call FMS at 530-898-6222 to report the swarm. FMS staff will respond to protect the swarm and keep people from accidentally encountering the bees.

Additionally, FMS may call a beekeeper to remove the swarm and provide them a new home in a hive.

Generally, swarming honeybees are not going to harm anyone. They are in their most docile state while swarming. However, we ask that everyone exercise caution and give the bees their space.

Don't hesitate to contact FMS Grounds at x3909 with any questions regarding bee swarms.
