UNIV 101 and 105 Call for Instructors

Announced on: Monday, Mar. 25, 2024

Want to help set first-year students up for success in a unique undergraduate research-focused GE course? Undergraduate Education (UED) and the First-Year Experience (FYE) program are seeking instructors for UNIV 101, Introduction to University Life and UNIV 105W, Self, Identity and Sustainability for Fall 2024.

In UNIV 101, students are supported in researching factors contributing to college success, investigating campus resources, and sharing their findings about the impact of these programs with campus stakeholders in a public setting. The course is supported by embedded peer mentors who facilitate active learning and small group collaboration.

In UNIV 105, students consider identity formation using students' direct experiences and researched examples of Emerging Adult Identity and Eco-Identity. Students read, write, discuss, and do case analyses and problem-solving to examine tensions among the idea of a consistent "self", the concept of "identity" as a set of ongoing processes, and the gaps between self-presentation and environmental commitments.

All faculty—tenured, tenure-track, and lecturers—are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to those with experience using inclusive and active teaching practices, applying first-year learning theory, and/or teaching introductory research methods. If interested, submit an application to the UED Lecturer pool and indicate your interest in this course. Review of applications begins April 10, 2023. For more information, contact FYE Director Sue Peterson (sepeterson@csuchico.edu).
