Project Rebound: A New Program for Students who Have Been Incarcerated

Announced on: Friday, Apr. 05, 2024

Are you a Chico State student who has been incarcerated? Chico State has a new student success center just for you called Chico State Project Rebound.

Check out the Chico State Project Rebound website to learn more about our program, to see if you are eligible, and to get the link to our on-line interest form https://www.csuchico.edu/sa/project-rebound/index.shtml. Once you fill out the form, a staff member will reach out to you to do a program intake.

Formerly incarcerated* students can stop by the Project Rebound drop-in center in Butte 111 to fill out the Interest form, use the computer/printer, study, socialize, etc. The drop-in center is also open to system involved and system-impacted* students.

Project Rebound also helps currently incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people enroll at Chico State. If you have a friend or family member anywhere in California who is interested in attending Chico State, have them fill out the interest form on our website. if they are currently incarcerated, we can mail a hard copy of the form to jail or prison.

Please also check out Rebound Scholars, the student club for formerly incarcerated, system-involved, and system impacted students, as well as allies. The club meets on Thursdays from 5-6pm. The meeting is hybrid, in the Project Rebound drop-in center (Butte 111) and on Zoom (ID: 893 7442 4519. Passcode: rebound).

*Chico State Project Rebound uses terms adapted from UC Berkeley Underground Scholars and San Francisco State Project Rebound.

  • Formerly Incarcerated -includes those who have been sentenced and served time in a carceral institution (prison, immigration detention centers, local jails, juvenile detention centers, etc.) and are now released.
  • System involved - includes those who have been involved in the carceral system but have not been sentenced to a carceral institution (for example, multiple juvenile and/or adult arrests, multiple 5150s, convictions with or without short jail stays and/or with or without court mandated supervision, etc.).
  • System impacted –includes those who live in a household where one or more family members or loved ones have been or are still incarcerated (parent, sibling, husband/wife, other relative, etc.). It can also refer to those who have family members or loved ones not from the same household but who they depend on or are otherwise closely attached to.
