The Book in Common author of How the Word is Passed is also the author of two award-winning books of poetry, Counting Descent (2016) and Above Ground (2023). In fact, one of Smith's poems (included in Counting Descent, "Ode to the Only Black Kid in the Class") was first published by Chico State's very own Watershed Review! Attend this free poetry reading by Smith, generously sponsored by Writer's Voice, the Northern California Writing Project, and the Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.
