BSS FUTURE Scholars Program & Summer Research Application is now OPEN!

Great news! There is yet another opportunity for more money and, even better, the opportunity to mentor students in research! Do you know an undergraduate student who would benefit from research experience? Do you need assistance with an ongoing or new research project of your own? If you answered yes to both of these questions, then you may want to apply for the inaugural offering of the BSS FUTURE Scholars Program!

Announcing the BSS FUTURE Scholars Program

The Dean's Office is excited to introduce the BSS FUTURE (Fostering University Talent through Undergraduate Research Experiences) Scholars Program, an undergraduate research experience designed to provide Hispanic/Latinx and/or low-income students (HLI)* with valuable opportunities to engage in hands-on research experiences, collaborate with faculty mentors, and contribute to the advancement of knowledge in their respective fields. The BSS FUTURE Scholars Program is designed to foster critical thinking, analytical skills, and a deeper understanding of research methodologies within the behavioral and social sciences disciplines.

Program Overview:

The BSS FUTURE Scholars Program is now accepting applications for summer and fall sessions.

  • The summer session (starting in June) provides $1,250 in student researcher wages. Up to ten faculty mentors will receive additional employment of up to $1,048 for mentoring up to two students.
  • Up to 20 students are eligible for funding.
  • The fall session (starting in August) provides $1,250 in student researcher wages^. Up to ten faculty mentors will receive additional employment of up to $1,048 for mentoring up to two students.
  • Up to 20 students are eligible for funding.

Student Eligibility Criteria:

  • Hispanic/Latinx and/or low-income
  • CSU, Chico sophomores, juniors, and seniors with a declared major within the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences. Students who are graduating prior to the start of their desired session are not eligible to participate.
  • U.S. citizens or permanent resident

Interested undergraduate students and potential faculty mentors within the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences can apply to the program by submitting an application form.
