Blood Drive - Today!

Donors are still needed for today's Chico State Blood Drive - Wednesday, May 1, at the BMU from 10:00am-2:00pm. You can come by for a walk-ins appointment or make an appointment at donors.vitalant.org. At the link, search for the Chico State event by "Blood Drive Code" and use SMFL003.

Donate in honor of the upcoming Mother's Day! Did you know that during and after childbirth, many mothers and babies rely on a stable blood supply? Your blood donation could help ensure that a mother survives childbirth complications.

This is Heather's story, provided by Vitalant: After giving birth to twins, Heather needed 11 blood transfusions over the next few weeks due to a uterine artery issue. Internal bleeding required transfusions that fully replaced all the blood in her body. After being stable for two years, Heather once again experienced hemorrhaging, requiring another two blood transfusions. Now healthy and well, Heather is a determined blood donor, vowing to give back all the blood she used. "It's shocking to realize how much blood can be needed by just one person," said Heather. "It will take me well over two years to give back just what I needed."

Information for donors

• You will be asked to complete a Fast Track Health History the day of your donation at vitalant.org/health.
• Please bring a photo ID. Eat well and drink plenty of water before donating.
• Eligibility Guidelines have been changing, and it's a good idea to review them in advance to make sure you will be able to donate. Also, there can be CDC restrictions due to recent travel – if you have traveled outside the U.S. recently it's a good idea to call 800-289-4923 to find out if you are eligible to donate.
