The University Farm is thrilled to announce it is opening a new farm stand at the corner of Nicholas C. Shouten and Hegan lanes. Expected to open July 10, the 2024 summer's offerings will start with a bumper crop of sweet corn and likely expand to melons. Chico State students will staff the stand from 8 a.m. to noon, Monday to Friday, with ears priced at $5 for a dozen or 50 cents each. Checks and cash will be accepted as payment. The farm planted 12 acres to allow for staggered harvests into September. Seeded melons and cantaloupes have also been planted. The money raised from sales will help support the College of Agriculture's row crop program, where students learn the fundamentals and support research into one of the state's top industries. To stay up to date on the farm stand's latest offerings, visit the University Farm Facebook page at www.facebook.com/ChicoStateUniversityFarm/ or call the farm office at 530-898-6343. While at the farm, be sure to visit the Organic Vegetable Project and the Meats Lab when they are open! The Organic Vegetable Project has public sales at the Greenhouse from noon to 4 p.m. on Thursdays. Items currently include zucchini, onions, garlic, tomatoes, lettuce, and strawberries. And the Meats Lab is open Thursdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a variety of pork, beef, lamb, and other products.
