In this session, Dr. Tina Cheuk will share her experiences with advocacy for student parents and students with dependents at Cal Poly, SLO.
Participants will:
• Recognize and leverage the strengths and contributions of student parents to enhance theircollege success (e.g., belonging, as well as retention and graduation)• Learn strategies to leverage the diverse experiences of student parents in creating aninclusive and supportive campus environment.
Speaker bio:
Dr. Tina Cheuk is an Assistant Professor of Elementary Science Education at theCalifornia Polytechnic State University – San Luis Obispo where she works to train newteachers and support in-service teachers. She is also the the director of #StudentParentJoy,a media and policy research program that is redefining what it means to be a pregnantand/or parenting student within the California State University system.
