Chain Sales Merchandiser, E. & J. Gallo Winery
Chico State graduating senior Natalie Sylar recently landed a job as a Chain Sales Merchandiser with E. & J. Gallo Winery. Sylar majored in Criminal Justice during her time with Chico State, but when it was time to apply for full time positions, she wanted to explore all her options.
So how did a Criminal Justice student end up with a sales position?
Although Natalie was not the typical sales candidate, she gained well-rounded, transferable skills through her undergraduate experience with Criminal Justice. After performing an internship in the Criminal Justice field, Sylar wanted to explore other opportunities. Sylar came into the Career Center and met with her advisor, Art Cox, and since she had enjoyed her previous experience with retail sales, he suggested she “dip her toes” into other sales opportunities by attending the Business, IT, and SAP Career Fair in February. It was important for Sylar to find a company with a strong emphasis on career development, and after talking to Gallo’s enthusiastic recruiters, she became immediately excited about their opportunities and company culture. Sylar is ready to learn and grow in a field that truly interests her with a company that is driven by passion.
“Art (Cox) was amazing. He not only gave me advice and support, but also facilitated opportunities by putting me with the right people in the right field. I would advise future graduates to learn a new field and dive in! Do not be afraid, and utilize the Career Center early.”
