Karina Barboza

Cultural Programmer
Karina is a 2nd year undergrad student from the South Central neighborhood of Los Angeles. She is majoring in Microbiology with minors in Spanish and Psychology. Growing up she was always interested in mental health and understanding others. Struggling with her own mental health and being able to talk to a Latina therapist helped her realize the importance of having healthcare professionals that understood the cultural context of their patients. Now, she is working towards getting into medical school and becoming a psychiatrist.

Karina is a first generation who values helping other students who were in her place starting college. She is eager to be able to support students and foster an inclusive environment where students can become the best versions of themselves.

In her free time, Karina enjoys journaling, reading dystopian and young adult novels, and watching horror movies and cat videos. She also loves making matcha lattes in the morning and checking out her local thrift stores. If you stop by and ask her, she'll be more than happy to tell you about her two cats back home.
